Taj Mahal directed by Nicolas Saada (2015)
This VFX breakdown showcases the work on Taj Mahal. The film depicts the rescue of a young woman trapped inside a burning hotel during the terrorist attacks that struck Mumbai on September 26, 2008. As the real location could not be used for filming, the sequence relied on a hybrid approach combining footage shot in Mumbai, partial sets built in France, and extensive visual effects.
MPC Paris, operating at the time under the name Mikros VFX, handled full facade reconstruction, digital set extensions, and fire and smoke simulations created in Houdini. A key technical challenge was maintaining seamless continuity between real and digital elements, with particular attention to lighting, scale and atmosphere, ensuring the visual effects remain invisible and fully integrated into the live action.
SYNOPSIS
November 2008. When her parents go out for diner, Louise, 18-years old, finds herself trapped in a room of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai during a terrorist attack.
