Stronger (2017)

MPC Paris looks back at visual effects originally created in 2017 by the former Mikros VFX teams in Canada for Stronger, directed by David Gordon Green.
The film follows the story of Jeff Bauman, one of the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and his physical and emotional recovery. Beyond the creation of several environments and crowd elements, the teams delivered a range of invisible visual effects tied to the main character, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, who is depicted as having lost both legs in the attack. This required carefully altering the actor’s body and reconstructing elements concealed by his limbs during filming, with the aim of achieving a seamless and respectful result.

This work echoes a similar approach developed earlier on Rust and Bone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8tsjsGq9BM), where subtle, invisible effects were used to support the performance of a valid actor portraying a character with a disability, and reflects a continuity of expertise that is now part of MPC Paris’ creative heritage.
