For the second time, Mathematic drove the art direction and VFX production of a Lil Nas X music video. For two months, over 30 artists worked on the VFX and environments. Shot entirely against blue screen , the video required a lot of tracking and rotoscoping to immerse the artist in fantastical biblical environments modeled entirely in 3D and enhanced by numerous matte paintings. The creation of 3D clones and their clothes, an arena with a crowd of over a thousand digital doubles, a devil with hellish horns and a menacing tail entirely digital, the modeling and animation of dozens of animals on the Ark, as well as complex fluid simulations for the tsunami and the final sequence of a stormy ocean... None of this could have been achieved without a colossal amount of color-grading and compositing work to bring all these elements together.
